Reflections of the 2000s by a chronic insomniac

As this decade quickly comes to a close, I had the time to sit and reflect over the events that have occured over the last 10 years, not just in my personal life, but the world.

I am not saying we have seen more then decades before, but this past one has been full of bad and good times.

The good things we saw this decade:

1. Blogs, facebook, myspace, Second Life, etc.

2. Reality TV, American Idol and other music programs (ok, for the most part, thats a bad thing, some of them REALLY SUCK!)

3. Ipods!!

4. Green and or talking cars

5. The “Man” sticking it to Micro$oft (THE PENGUIN RULES!!)

6. Music!! OMG What an INCREDIBLE decade for music! Blues also became more popular as a lot of young ppl jumped into it feet first.

7. The identity of Deep throat was eligible to be public knowledge; former FBI agent, W. Mark Felt

8. The final Installment of the Harry Potter books hit the shelves (take that how you will… :) )

9. IPHONE!!! Blue tooth, 3G, etc etc…

10. Micheal Phelps brings home the gold for the US.

11. The Detroit Redwings won 2 Stanley Cups (Ok, so this is personal for me.)

12. Nancy Pelosi became the FIRST FEMALE speaker of the US House of Representatives

13. John Kerry did NOT get elected… (I do love how he used his Army service in Nam to fire his campaign.. what he forgot to mention, and the old Soldiers remember, he is the same guy that as soon as he got back from his second tour in Nam, he threw his medals in the water in front of the White House and did press conferences with the Hippie Squad telling the Country that his brother soldiers were rapists, murderers etc.
His military service is only a “proud moment” for him when it suits his agenda, otherwise.. PHHHT the rest of us.)

The Bad Things:

1. AOL buy out of Time Warner

2. AOL Took over ICQ (I hate it now but still use it, go figure)

3. The USS Cole (I think this one needs no explanation)

4. Terrorism escalated to an all time high, we watched in horror as the towers fell, the pentagon was blown up, and cried even more when we were told about the brave passangers of United Flight 93 standing strong and brave, and downing their plane in a PA field. Madrid bombings, anthrax… I don’t think I need to continue, I don’t think any of us will forget those events any time soon.

5. Some of our own people (American Citizens) were helping the cause of the terrorists.

6. Afghanistan War

7. Iraq War

I have lost many friends in 6 and 7, but I am proud of them. They gave their lifes to defend freedom, they stood up for what they felt was right and for a cause they believed in. I miss them every day, and in my heart, they are not gone, because I will never forget them. I cherish every moment of the time they were in my life, and feel honored to have been a part of theirs.

8. Nancy Pelosi became the FIRST FEMALE speaker of the US House of Representatives (on here twice, I was glad a woman finally made it but… I wasn’t crazy about her… That’s being nice. :) )

9. The DC Snipers

10. Destructive Mother Nature, Katrina, earthquakes, Tsunamies…

11. Planes going down left and right

12. Deaths of many dear public figures, the ones we felt we knew personally: President Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, Peter Jennings, Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, President Gerald Ford, Steve “The Crocodile Hunter” Irwin, Ana Nicole Smith, Heath Ledger, Bettie Page, Ted Kennedy, MJ and Farrah.

13. Terry Schiavo’s case… I find it bad because congress butted their noses into it. They turned it into their own personal agenda. I do not feel that a person’s right to die should be a public event or decision. If I signed a DNR order, I expect it to be carried out.

14. The Democrats took control of both houses. (Bad to me being military! The Democrats are not known for thier support of the military, I mean, they were the ones who voted to send our troops to war, but then the majority of them turned around and voted to not send us supplies like oh.. BULLETS to do the job with… )

15. The Britney Spears saga

16. The capture and execution of a tyrant (This is only in the bad things section because it’s a crock it had to be done in the first place. I am still chronically stunned at times that there are people like him allowed to breath… HOOOOAH 4ID!)

17. Judicial system comes to Iraq (some what, but its better then what they had before.)

18. Pakistans’ former FEMALE Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto killed by an assassin.

19. The worst economic times in 40 years

20. Swine flu

21. The Detroit Redwings lost to the Pitsburg Penguins in a Stanley Cup final. (again, personal for me)

22. Pirates, school shootings

23. Soldiers not being cared for after sacrificing themselves to a war…. PTSD induced suicides, Ft Hood Shootings, bad hospital conditions, that list can go on and on and on… I mean, their president offered them a suicide pill so they wouldn’t “be burdens to their family or society anymore”. I have a husband that was wounded in Iraq in 2005… After the Army stated they were no longer able to help him, he had to retire. I do not look at him as a burden at all; like our other wounded soldiers, he is a hero, and they ALL deserve better then what they are getting…

24. The smoking ban in bars (I am a smoker, no I do not smoke where people are eating, or blow it in their face, etc; I have seen a lot of places go under because most people do smoke while drinking especially. I expect to see smokers in a bar. I don’t expect to see them in restaurant smoking while people are eating
but thats just me. I like to think I am a courteous smoker; I live by the principal of “I smoke, you don’t through me”.)

25. Kanye West and Taylor Swift…. (She whines too much, he deserves the chronically moronic award… Nuff said.)

We have also seen some funny things!

1. Janet’s wardrobe malfunction

2. Martha going to jail (ok, thats only funny because she always put on the MS PERFECT AIR!)

3. The Britney Spears Saga (Ok so it’s listed twice, I still find it funny…)

4. Enron gets busted and people end up in prison for fraud

5. Thomas Beattie gives birth… (the only funny thing here really is the media’s role in it…)

We also found out how stupid so many are… Bush Gore in Florida ring any bells?

With my list of events in the world this past decade, you could say that the 2000 decade really sucked. There was more bad then good.. Granted it did, but the important thing to me is what we have learned as a society from it all? I believe bad things happen for a reason. It makes you stronger mentally as a person. You can either lay down and die over it, or use it to make you wiser, and make sure they don’t get repeated.

As a society, we need to stick together, no matter what religion, race, sex, we are. Those are trivial in the grand scheme of things. If we allow these bad things to continue to happen in our future, there will be nothing left for our children or their children. We need to all learn from the tragedies of this decade, and work harder to making the upcoming one better.

I wish you all a very happy and safe New Year. I hope that 2010 is better for us all then the last decade.

Cheers!

Things that make you shout out “Is this for real?”

Then you realize it is and you just get angry. Now, I have said in earlier posts I would not get into politics and to me, this has nothing to do with politics, just stupidity. :) First, the Chronic Stupidity Image.

Find it did ya? Yes folks, I am talking about CNN’s latest quick vote listing in the image

Disclaimer and warning of the day:
I have an issue with the chronically stupid and moronic. I am very outspoken about this chronic ailment, and I do not apologize for anything I say when dealing with the chronically stupid EVER!

I do not know what possessed me to look at cnn.com tonight. I have had a reasonably decent day today, maybe it was the need to see that other peoples’ lives were worse then mine at the moment. Considering that one of my husbands is deployed currently, the News is not something I do often, at least not CNN anyway.

With all the things going on in the world, war, famines, a pending depression and the fallen economy, earthquakes in Portugal; CNN could find nothing better to poll about then “Should Information about Women Who Get Abortions Be Posted Online?” Considering the state, is this REALLY going to do any good?

As much as I hate to admit, it was the second thing to catch my eye on their page. The first one being “Facebookers rage against Simon Cowell”… says a lot about me doesn’t it? I could have lied and said that it was “Powerful female entrepreneurs”, I am human, sue me. (To those of you inflicted with Chronic Stupidity, that will never stand up in court!)

8 percent of the people who voted feel that if you as a woman decide to have an abortion, you should be plastered all over the internet. As what? I guess that is the real question here. Is their an Abortion Offenders list somewhere we don’t know about? Kinda lumped in with the Sex Offenders list? Who’s business is it anyway what YOU decide to do with your own body?
I am not going to air my views on abortion, that is something that is mine to hold on to. I do however believe in a person’s right to privacy. I also do not believe that a government, a state or a religion should tell anyone how to live their lifes, or what to do. So many have died to give us all rights we should be entitled to from the moment we take our first breath on this earth…. FREEDOM!

I am appalled at CNN for even taking the time to post that kind of poll in the first place. There are so many other more important things that we should be discussing and voting on that this. I guess what ever causes controversy or sells headlines is what works for them. The poll is tied to this news article.

The law, passed in May, requires doctors to fill out a 10-page questionnaire for every abortion performed, including asking the woman about her age, marital status, race and years of education. In all, there are 37 questions the women are to answer.

Lets push it back to the days of illegal abortions in unsanitary conditions, back seats of a car and wire hangers in a bathroom shall we?

This is a GREAT QUOTE!

Troy Newman, the head of the Kansas-based anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, said the law is “designed so that the pregnant mother can have as much information as technology and medicine will allow.”

“Naturally, the abortion industry wants to block this, because they know the more information the mom has, the less likely she is to abort her baby,” Newman said.

Granted, some women do use abortion as a form of birth control, but this will push a pregnant teen farther away from getting help during a pregnancy don’t you think? Don’t we have too many babies now being shoved into a trash can after they are born? Babies being born preterm or with issues because the mother did NOT get prenatal care due to various reasons, including being afraid of anyone finding out due to being a teen? Where’s Operation Rescue on that issue?

In reading this article, there are things that I can possibly agree with. I just do not agree with posting this information on a website. Great, ask the questions, like all medical records, it needs to stay out of the public eye, you know patient doctor privilege, it is not a matter of public record considering it can’t be used even in a court of law with out special circumstances.

doctor-patient privilege definition – legal

n
A legal privilege, arising from a doctor’s obligation of confidentiality, that forbids the doctor from disclosing any information or testifying about confidential health matters or communications from a patient, unless the patient waives the privilege. —-Webster’s New Law Dictionary

I have a great idea! While we are at it, let’s finish throwing out the constitution, amendments, bill of rights and all that idiocracy once and for all! Our founding fathers did NOT know what they were doing!!

The Chronically Moronic award goes to:

Toughie…. I am not sure if the award should go to Oklahoma State Sen. Todd Lamb who helped draft the abortion legislation and describes it as “a common sense measure with bipartisan support.” (Separation of church and State Sen Lamb? Ever heard of it?)

OR

Oklahoma County District Judge Daniel Owens who denied the state’s motion to dismiss the case, putting the measure on hold until a February 19 hearing. This should be a no brainer.

Make it easy on myself… Double Award… :)
